Building materials company Extech is layingoff 5,000 workers as part of a restructuring, according to a statement released by the company on Wednesday.
Extech announced its plans to cut more than 1,100 jobs in its manufacturing and engineering divisions, the statement said.
The Florida company manufactures the material for exterior walls and concrete, and is the company behind the Florida Building Material Company logo.
ExTech will be severing its relationship with its partner, Florida Building Materials, according the statement.
The company’s parent company, Extech, is the world’s largest manufacturer of building materials.
Exttech also provides a variety of other products to home builders.
The companies were created by Charles and Edith Duke in 1961.
The Duke’s first business venture was a building materials business in the late 1960s.
They later merged into Extech and the company now operates across a wide range of industries.
The Associated Press previously reported that Extech will also lay off 1,000 employees at its plant in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
