A new $1.9 million project could make a garage in the desert an eco-tourist destination

Posted May 04, 2019 08:47:49 A new facility could be coming to the San Diego area that could help revitalize a derelict garage in a desolate corner of the desert.

The project would be built on the site of the defunct Cajun Shipyard and features two floating homes made from a combination of steel and concrete, a large parking garage and an outdoor dining patio.

The project, dubbed “The Factory,” is part of the Cajungus International Community Development Program, a $1 million investment program for urban renewal projects in Southern California.

Cajun Ships, which was built in 1879 to haul cargoes of goods to New Orleans, closed in 2012 when the Louisiana Department of Commerce moved operations to the Port of Los Angeles.

The shipyard, which has since been transformed into a park, is in a residential neighborhood.

“This is a very special place,” said San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who has championed the revitalization of the abandoned shipyard.

“We can’t afford to lose this site, so we need to bring a lot of people to it.

It’s a place that has so much potential.”

The factory, which could be up and running in about a year, would be located in a former shipyard warehouse in a section of the area known as the Cuyamaca River Valley.

The Cuyamonas are a low-lying section of coastal California that is home to hundreds of historic buildings that once dotted the river.

The river’s waters once flooded the area and the shipyards were built along its banks.

The Cajuns built their own buildings on the land during the Depression years, but the area was completely abandoned in the 1950s and ’60s when the river was drained and turned into farmland.

It was later re-taken by the United States Army and used as a military airfield, a storage depot, a military airport and the home of a chemical company.

The facility, designed by architecture firm Kresge Architects, would replace the former shipyards parking lot and building.

Construction on the building would be funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The building would feature a two-story garage and a rooftop deck, which would house a large outdoor dining area, according to plans.

The garage is designed to fit into a new park that is being developed in the area.

The garage could be open to the public within two years and could have a capacity of 1,500 people, according the plans.

Construction on the new facility, which will be about 100 yards from the old shipyards, is expected to begin in the fall of 2020 and be completed in the early 2020s.
